Welcome to the year 8 Computing unit of work where we look at how data is stored in a computer. Please use this page for further information and support on this unit of wo<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The <\/span>intention<\/strong><\/span> of this unit is to provide an introduction to the fundamentals of how computers store, hold and use data.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Students create a student portfolio of images, data, sound and text and how these are represented in binary.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

The <\/span>impact<\/strong><\/span> of this unit will be measured by the end of unit assessment and the student portfolio.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Image information<\/strong><\/h4>\nLossy image compression is a technique that reduces file size by discarding some data. This process compromises image quality to varying degrees, resulting in a smaller file size but potentially sacrificing details, especially when repeatedly compressed. JPEG is a widely used lossy compression format for images in digital media.<\/span>

<\/div>Lossless image compression is a method to reduce file size without compromising image quality. It achieves this by encoding data more efficiently, ensuring that the original image’s detail and accuracy remain intact. Popular formats like PNG and GIF use lossless compression, making them ideal for preserving image fidelity in various applications.<\/span>
